The Fiery Furnace is an experience, not merely a destination. With no established trail it is intended for hikers to explore and discover as they find their own path through the maze of rocks, fins, sandy washes, canyons, and towering spires. Hidden in the maze are formations such as Skull Arch, Surprise Arch, Kissing Turtles, and more. This experience requires patience, curiosity, physical agility, and endurance to complete. Route-finding in the labyrinth of the Fiery Furnace is an exciting experience for the adventure seeker. GPS devices are not reliable in the fiery furnace and getting lost is a real possibility. The Fiery Furnace is not easy nor something to do when you’ve got a schedule to keep. However, you will not be disappointed in this thrilling excursion!
To enter the Fiery Furnace it is recommended, but not required, that you join a ranger-guided hike, but tours are limited. Whether you choose to do a ranger led hike or self-guided hike a day-use permit is required to enter the Fiery Furnace.
Important note: The National Park service does not allow commercial guides to navigate you through the Fiery Furnace so your tour guide will be unable to assist you during your hike. Your guide will assist in getting your permit and delivering you to the trailhead and collecting you at the end. Permit fees are included with every Desert Solitude tour.
